dear mr. president

This is “Dear Mr. President” by Pink. It’s been out for over a year now, but I’m only just finding it.

I just want to say AMEN TO THAT! AMEN!!! And kudos to her, for being ballsy in a time when people are afraid to say what they’re really thinking. This is what we are really thinking but might not have the guts to say for fear of being called un-American, unpatriotic, or a terrorist even!

This is what it means to embrace our first amendment - not just to bitch and moan, but to bring forward real honest problems with the hope and spirit to strive for something better. This is what it means to love our country. This is the passion that our country was born from. To not just roll over and take whatever crap they’re throwing at us this week. THIS is why America is beautiful!

This song gives me chills. 328 days, 2 hours, and 12 minutes until we can hope for something better.

valentine flowers

valentine candy

Sweets from my valentine. (note the grubby little hand going for my chocolates :) )

If this week could be defined in one word, that word would be CHOCOLATE! Even before Valentine’s Day, my dear husband brought home FOUR boxes of Girl Scout cookies. He didn’t know that we are boycotting the poor girl scouts for their use of hydrogenated oils, but besides that, who did he think was going to eat them??? Because you know, if you have Samoas in the house, they have to be eaten immediately! So I did.

He is obviously, very, very sweet to me, so we forgive him.

But the best thing about today is that I happened to discover my old weight tracking charts this morning, and I found that right now I am smaller at every point on my body than I have ever been in the last five years. (But maybe not after I finish all of this chocolate!) Even though I do weigh a good five pounds more than my lowest weight. Hell, I’ll take a smaller waist over five pounds on the scale. Here is where it pays off to be the kind of nerd who keeps charts of her weight and measurements dating back almost five years.

I hope you all had a happy and indulgent Valentine’s Day :)

pictures just for Meaghan

This post is dedicated to Meaghan, who has been begging for new pictures for a very long time.

Taking pictures of a one year-old is not an easy job to do. My camera is cheap and SLOW! By the time the lens has focused, Dylan is already off and tearing up another room. When he was younger I could prop him up on pillows and just wait for a smile. When he is older, he might hopefully understand the concept of posing. But this age right now is nearly impossible.

A lot of them end up a complete blur because either he was moving too fast, or got too close trying to get my camera. But most are almost usable and look like they’ll be really cute in that tiny two inch preview window, but disappointingly unclear when viewed at normal size.

Only if I’m very lucky, maybe once in 50 shots (what is that, 2%?), I’ll get a gem. One in which he is both in focus AND looking at the camera, and Praise God if he is actually smiling or looking cute in it!

Then, of course, I can have as many pictures of the back of his head as I want.

The second part of the problem is that my sweet child won’t let me leave the room lately, and since our computer is in our very unchildproofed bedroom, Mommy doesn’t get much computer time.

This problem will be solved soon. Since our dear President is apparently going to make money fall out of the sky, I am finally going to get a laptop. That means more blogging and more pictures!
