because people get sick in November

Watched The Good Shepherd, burned some cookies, made a yummy spinach and shrimp alfredo. I really, honestly, can’t remember what happened in the first half of the day. Maybe I was abducted by aliens?

I find myself wondering, here at the close of NaBloPoMo, how all the NaNoWriMo writers did this month? November really is a crappy month to write a novel, in my opinion. It’s a crappy month to try to be a blogger. There’s Thanksgiving, and shopping, and colds and flus being passed out like Halloween candy. Why not September? Or April? October?

October sounds good. Let’s do October.

I hope everyone had a happy and productive November.

i know i said no talking about coupons

I may have failed NaBloPoMo, but you have not seen the end of me! I have discovered that I actually enjoy blogging every day. I enjoy the pressure of having to use my brain, every day, to think of something hopefully worthwhile. To try to be creative, informative, or at the very least, make sure you don’t regret the time you spent reading my blog. It’s almost like a job.

And let’s not forget reason #3 for doing NaBloPoMo in the first place – that I will someday be a World-Famous Professional Mommy-Blogger!

All that said, I didn’t actually get a chance to think today. But I did save $57 off of $133 at Meijer! So I suppose there was a small degree of thinking involved. At least I accomplished something :)

oops, i guess i fail

I missed by 14 minutes. Oops. I guess I wasn’t watching the time.

Dylan is starting to feel a little better. The good news is that he does not have pneumonia. The bad news is that he will most likely have childhood asthma. But we kind of knew that already anyway. His doctor says we are an “atopic family.” Meaning both Jim and I have allergies, asthma, and eczema. Basically, we shouldn’t be breeding. Except that we make damn cute kids.

The other bad news is that both ears are still infected.

And more bad news is that he’s not going to be happy when I wake him up to shove a nebulizer in his face in 40 minutes.

nope, not today

Poor sad little boy is sick. And the molar is the least of his problems. That’s all. I’m tired.

it’s okay, I have chocolate

Still working on that molar. We have a very sad little boy over here.

This commercial makes me tear up every time I see it, even if I am sitting with a bunch of strangers at the Secretary of State waiting to renew my tags. Especially the part where the little girl holds up the sign that says, “My mommy’s going to make it.”

[begin public service announcement here] Did you know that if you have a mother, sister, or daughter diagnosed with breast cancer before menopause, you should talk to your doctor about beginning early breast cancer screenings 5-10 years before your relative was diagnosed? My mother was 33 when she was diagnosed. I’m 27 now, and I have my first screening scheduled next week. That’s pretty scary.

oh, the misery!

dylan, teething

Today, in its entirety, was spent helping Dylan birth molar #2 into the world. We will name it Oscar, after his favorite-of-the-moment teddy bear.

In other news, because the rest of the world does go on, even if this household is teething – Tuesday marks the end of a 12-week “Biggest Loser”-type challenge I have been leading on one of my mommy boards. It has been so much fun to share my enthusiasm and little bits of knowledge with those wonderful ladies, and they have been the support and camaraderie that I needed to lose 11.5 pounds and almost three inches off my waist.

I’m not usually one to boast, but I feel pretty happy about this. I still have 34 pounds to go, but I don’t doubt I’ll get there. It’s just a matter of time now. Exercise has become a part of my regular routine. The bad habits have been changed. I noticed it especially over this Thanksgiving holiday, the desire to fit in workouts even though I was busy, and the freedom to eat what I wanted without eating too much.

It’s not about the diet – it’s the lifestyle. It’s the healthy choices you make every day of your life because you want to. Because it feels good to. You hear these kind of things over and over again, and then one day, like now, they finally make sense.

Because I have been out spending money for two whole days straight (AND saving an average 53% off retail!), you get this:

27%

I figure Jim should know these things, so that in the event of a zombie apocalypse, he’ll know he needs to watch out for me. Honey, are you there?

Jim likes zombie movies. So, if you are ever caught in a zombie apocalypse, you’ll probably want to find him.

sleeping is fun

Posted under Uncategorized by Laura on Friday 23 November 2007 at 7:18 pm

All three of us napped for almost four hours this afternoon. I haven’t had a nap that long since I was pregnant. (No, that isn’t implying anything, as far as I know ;)

Tonight is date night. Jim, the film enthusiast of the family, wants to go see this movie I’ve never heard of but that’s supposed to be really good. They usually are, when he says so, so I guess I’ll trust him.

I’ll be wearing my new red cashmere sweater that I got for almost $30 off from Old Navy this morning (Yay, Black Friday!) with a new pair of dark wash Old Navy Flirt jeans that I got for $15!

There really isn’t much time for any more than that, because of the four hour nap and all. I’m going out with my Honey ;)

black friday

It’s going to be 23 degrees tonight and there are people sleeping outside in tents waiting for the sales in the morning. Not me though. I’ll be sleeping in my nice warm bed.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

Jim found this, Songza, tonight. An internet jukebox, they call it. It’s pretty cool, but like Jim says, probably wont be around for long before somebody shuts it down. Although, you’re not actually downloading anything, so it technically isn’t stealing ;)

And hey, I listened to a few songs, and then proceeded directly to itunes to buy them. I totally don’t buy that file sharing is bad for the music business. They got my $9.99 + $0.99 tonight.

Listening to the Across the Universe Soundtrack, by the way. And now I’m off to eat some chocolate chip cookies :)
